Crossroads helped in making ODPC feel like a home church.
It provided an opportunity to meet a good community, especially for young professionals going through a transition period.
Meeting new friends and considering them as brothers and sisters.
Having fellow Christian brothers and sisters as a foundation for a new chapter.
Also I felt like it was a launching pad into the adult ministry of ODPC. Since OD is so big it can be intimidating but since you go to church events together with your XR friends it's much easier to transition into the adult ministry.
The lessons solidified the foundation of faith and the meaning of being part of a church.
The Financial stewardship module was particularly enjoyable and practical.
I have an appreciation for the focus on what Scripture says about money.
The Leaders building off the lessons to make them relevant to the participants.
I remember having skewed views on marriage and through the XR study on marriage I remember God fixing that and redeeming the beauty of marriage for me.
I really appreciated how gospel centered and practical the curriculum was in identifying how we can live out our lives more like Jesus
I enjoyed the fellowship, discussions, sharing, and prayer.
I appreciated the availability of leaders for advice, guidance, and spending time together.
It's something I took for granted being a new grad coming out of a school environment, but now I see just how special it is to have a community who do our best to love God, figuring out "adulting" together, all the while building long-lasting friendships.
Crossroads helped me start my working life right! It was great to do it with a bunch of people all going through the same challenges and excitement. Loved it!
XR was a crucial experience for me as a believer through the transition into the real world of adulthood. I really appreciated how gospel centered and practical the curriculum was in identifying how we can live out our lives more like Jesus. Especially in an area like Northern Virginia, the idea of living radically is often rejected. I can imagine that XR can be that much more relevant for Gen Zers in navigating and also challenging the current social context that they live in with respect to the Gospel. In addition, I truly believe the "success" of XR was really anchored in the heart of the leadership to cultivate an authentic gospel community, rooted in love. I was really blessed by the intentionality of my XR leaders, and I am lucky to still have close relationships with those I met in my XR year, even over 10 years later.
XR gave me a chance to really think about what I wanted my 20s to be about. It was good to have both mentors who had been through it, and peers who were asking the same questions as me. The weekly moments to share, have fun and learn made the introduction to working life unimaginably better.
I am still forever grateful for XR. I still remember some really intimate moments of sharing, repenting and praying together with our female members. I remember having skewed views on marriage and through the XR study on marriage I remember God fixing that and redeeming the beauty of marriage for me. Also I felt like it was a launching pad into the adult ministry of ODPC. Since OD is so big it can be intimidating but since you go to church events together with your XR friends it's much easier to transition into the adult ministry.
If I could say 1 thing about XR, it would be .....that it helped me connect with an awesome community. I still keep in touch with many of those friends after more than a decade. I remember serving together with fellow XR members in different ministries, which helped me connect better with them and also with other members of the church and the outside community. I met so many people in different life stage through serving. I’m busier with work and kids now, so I don’t have as much time for that.
It's something I took for granted being a new grad coming out of a school environment, but now I see just how special it is to have a community who do our best to love God, figuring out "adulting" together, all the while building long-lasting friendships. I expected to meet new friends through XR but I honestly didn't know that we would still be such good friends even to this day. What I also didn't know is that for some friends that I entered into XR together, our friendships would grow stronger because we were able to dive deeper into God's love together and discussions about what He's doing in our lives became a core part of our friendships.
I am so thankful and feel so blessed to have been a part of Crossroads this past year, and I definitely feel as though it has helped me greatly in terms of making ODPC feel like my home church. I'm very thankful to each of the leaders for always being available to all of the members and for helping us feel like a community.
It was a great way to meet a good community in the area. Especially after graduation, it's hard to find young professionals in the church at a similar transition period.
The lessons were good. I was a little let down because for some reason I thought the lessons would lead me to some grand, profound revelation, but instead, they just solidified the foundation of faith and what it means to be part of a church. These are things we "learn" growing up in a church, but it was useful to go over them again as an adult, with a more applicable meaning.
I particularly enjoyed the module on financial stewardship and appreciated how it was broken down into specific and practical topics over a span of several weeks. I liked how it (along with all of the other modules) was very focused on what Scripture says about money.
I thought the lessons were good as basic guidelines, but it was great that the leaders were able to build off that and make it relevant to us.
XR was a great way for me to get plugged into the church. Because of XR, I met amazing new friends that I can really call my own brothers and sisters. Transitioning into a new church, I knew that I definitely could not do it on my own so I thank you guys for providing this transitional sg for us!
Not just sense of community for people that are new to the area, but an opportunity to have fellow Christian brothers and sisters to start this new chapter with a community we can turn to as a foundation.
The fellowship, overall topics we discussed, and sharing/prayer was a huge blessing this year. I enjoyed getting to know the staff/leaders as well throughout the process. This was a great way to learn more about different aspects of ODPC and get plugged in early!
I enjoyed meeting a good community outside of work. People and the leaders were always willing to hang out or meet one-on-one for advice/guidance. I'm so thankful for the leaders and their time.
